9 smart ways to cut calories in party
Party is the challenging thing for the goal to loose weight. Here are the smart ways to cut calories while you still have fun in party.
1. Eat a healthy snack before the party,
such as a small handful of nuts or some low-fat cheese with celery sticks or a few whole-wheat crackers before you leave the house. This way you won’t be starving when you arrive at the party.
2. Get some exercise
Before your yuletide gathering begins, head outdoors for a brisk 20-minute walk, hit the gym, or do a workout at home. Or round up your loved ones and take a group walk after dinner to take in the Christmas lights and decorations before enjoying dessert.
3. Be social and greet other guests
If you make a point to stay far away from the buffet table, you won’t be inclined to mindlessly nosh on foods while having a conversation.
4. Watch out for the drinks.
It’s important to keep tabs on the amount of alcohol you’re drinking. Instead of having a mixed drink or cocktail, enjoy a glass of red wine, or if you like beer, choose the light variety. But limit yourself to one or two, then call it quits and switch to a non-caloric beverage.
5. Consider all your options
Before you start digging randomly into tempting dishes at a party, look through all the available foods and decide which ones you’re going to enjoy and avoid. Indulge in the foods that you won’t see until the next holiday season.
6. Be a food snob.
If you don't love it, don't eat it, says American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Melinda Johnson, MS, RD. Scan the buffet for foods you truly treasure and skip the
everyday dishes that are available all year long. And don't think it's your responsibilityto sample everything on the buffet.
7. Limit the variety
Brian Wansink, PhD, author of Mindless Eating, suggests putting only two items on your plate when you go to the food table. Return as many times as youlike, but only take two items each time.
8. Talk with people when eating
This will force you to eat more slowly and help keep your mind off the food.
9. Plan your food for the day around the event
And if you're not expecting to find smart food choices, have a light, healthy snack or meal before the event so you don't rely on the food that's there to fill you up.
